A Young City With Young Trees
North Salt Lake grew about 34 percent between 2010 and 2020, from 16,322 residents to 21,907, and Tree Service in North Salt Lake reflects that pace. Much of the housing is newer, the median age was just 30.6 in 2020, and 43 percent of households had children under 18. That adds up to a lot of young trees in busy yards, and a lot of owners making decisions now that will decide what those trees look like in thirty years.
The first fifteen years matter most
A tree planted with a new house has a short window when a few small cuts can shape its whole future. During that window, structural pruning should:
- Keep one dominant leader instead of two competing tops
- Space main branches along the trunk rather than clustered at one point
- Remove branches growing back into the crown or rubbing each other
- Lift low limbs gradually as the tree grows, not all at once
Miss that window and you end up with split forks and heavy side limbs that need much bigger cuts later.
Removing the wrong tree early
Builders and first owners sometimes plant fast-growing trees in the wrong place: too close to the house, right under the service drop, or in a narrow side yard. If a young tree is clearly going to outgrow its spot, taking it out at eight inches across is a short job. Taking it out at twenty-four inches is not. We will tell you honestly if a tree is worth keeping where it is.
Hillsides and views
North Salt Lake sits at the south end of Davis County, bordered by Salt Lake City to the south, Woods Cross to the north and Bountiful to the northeast. East-side neighborhoods rise into the foothills. On sloped lots, trees can block views or crowd retaining walls, and removals often have to be rigged and lowered rather than felled. We plan that on site and include it in the written estimate.
Where the wood can go
Bountiful's city landfill in West Bountiful accepts clean green waste from North Salt Lake residents, in addition to its own. If you are doing your own small pruning, that is a nearby option. For anything larger, our jobs include chipping and hauling.

North Salt Lake Questions
My trees are only a few years old. Is pruning really necessary?
It is the most useful time to prune. A few small cuts now set the tree's structure for decades and prevent weak forks that split later. It is quick work and usually inexpensive.
Can you remove a tree on a steep backyard slope?
Yes. On slopes we usually climb and lower the tree in sections so nothing rolls or hits a retaining wall, then move the wood up to the street. The estimate reflects the extra labor.
Where can I take branches from my own pruning?
The Bountiful landfill accepts clean green waste from North Salt Lake residents. Check its page for current fees and hours before you load up.
A tree was planted right under the line to my house. Should it come out?
If it will grow into the line, removing or relocating it while it is small is the simplest fix. Rocky Mountain Power's planting guide recommends keeping larger trees well away from overhead lines. Never prune near an energized wire yourself.
Can you raise the limbs on my young trees so we can mow under them?
Yes, but gradually. Removing too many low branches at once weakens a young trunk. We take a few each visit as the tree grows, keeping at least two-thirds of its height in live crown.
